The design of this harness began with a need for a form fitting harness that stays upright on the dog while pulling a wheelchair and giving balance to the handler when they transition from the chair. A dog’s strength for pulling comes from the chest and our Pulling & Balance Harness is a safe and effective way to utilize that power.  Unlike pulling a wheelchair that is attached to the dog’s collar this harness takes the stress away from the dog’s neck and it is much safer for the dog.

Attached on the top of the Harness over the dog’s girth is a stand up handle. The handle is positioned so it is very easy to grab onto the dog for balance. The heavy welded D-rings for pulling or add on handles are located on the top and one on each side of the handle. It is very easy to hold unto the handle and snap the lead to the D-ring. There is a non-restricting back plate on the harness top to place an identification patch. It is big enough to fit one of our specialty patches. The Pulling & Balance Harness comes with two rocker patches. One rocker patch for the front of the harness and the other for the top of the harness (patches shown in photos).  Any specialty patches are an extra option.

Our Pulling & Balance Harness is very simple to put on the dog. You open the girth strap buckles, slip the harness over the dog’s head, and run the chest pad bottom guide strap through the dog’s front legs and then back up to where the girth strap meets to buckle the harness. The front chest straps have double adjustments. The girth has two side release buckles and adjusting slides.

All the stress points on the dog are padded. The underside of both the back plate and chest plate are felted, and then covered with sherpa. The girth strap has two removable washable sherpa covers. The back and chest plates are covered on the top with rugged 1000 denier materials. The front of the chest plate is visible at night as the webbing running vertical on the chest is reflective.

This Pulling & Balance Harness should fit snug around the dog’s girth. When measuring your dog measure the girth just behind the dogs front legs and up over the back of the dog.

Available in 2 sizes:

**Only 2 Rocker Patches come on the vest standard**
*Note we cannot add hook & loop backing to the rocker patches

This Balance & Pulling Harness is designed to work directly with our Wheelchair Pulling Leash (#707586).

Available in 13 colors

I am highly impressed with this harness it is extremely well made, from the stitching to the material it is made from. This harness will easily give many, many years of hard service to the handler. I have seen harnesses for near the same price that are no where near as good. Anyone looking for this style of a service harness all I can say you will be happy with this one. Wonderful service from this company.

Yes, I would recommend this product.

Great & Perfect!
This pull harness is so ergonomically designed that my Charlie boy easily wears and pulls (or assist pulls) my ultra-lite wheelchair. He can put his chest into the vest where he best can pull. I also use this vest (minus padding on straps) as a minimalist SD vest. Sometimes it is too hot even for the mesh vest and this one fits the bill in AZ!

Thank you Active Dogs for a superior product!

Great Harness
Kima's new pulling and balance harness (item #707586Y) arrived yesterday. Today, we had the chance to actually use it for the first time and received MANY compliments.

More importantly to me than the outward appearance of any gear is the construction. Her new harness is easy to get on and off and is everything I'd hoped it would be. As always, the quality is what I've come to expect from Active Dogs……excellent!!

Safety and visibility is a huge concern to me. The reflective stitching provides a great deal of peace of mind.

I use an ultralight wheelchair whenever I'm out and about. Most of the time, I typically propel myself, but there are times when I need Kima's help pulling or to stand (from sitting or from the floor). This harness with its easy to grasp sturdy handle totally fits my needs.

The sizing description on the website is spot-on accurate. Kima is a (mostly) Karelian Bear Dog. KBDs are a Finnish breed which are only slightly larger than an Aussie. I had to adjust the straps to the smallest setting, but the fit is perfect. Her successor will most likely be a larger breed and I will be able to use the harness with him or her. (I'll just have to get a new customised name patch!)

I'm attaching 2 photos, front and side view. If you would like to use this as a recommendation or review, I give Active Dogs full permission to use both my words and her pictures.

Thanks for making high quality, yet affordable, gear for working dogs. So many people, myself included, in the disabled community live on limited incomes. It's nice to know that Active Dogs exists!

Thanks again,
Charlotte Angell

This review answered my questions well as my use of my Mobility service dog does not match most others. My girl is a strong medium size dog who presently is my balance as I walk but is in training to pull me in a light travel wheelchair as my strength declines. So, Thank You for both your words and pictures!

My dog prefers this harness
I've been using this harness exclusively for several months. It is exactly the right height for me to hook fingers under the firmly attached loop as my dog pulls me. More importantly, my dog seems to prefer this to the padded vest when she is pulling, especially in summer months. All points of contact, even the underside of the upper part over the dog's back, are covered in sherpa to reduce or eliminate stress points. This is a perfect harness for anyone needing a pull, whether the handler needs help walking or is in a wheelchair.

Yes, I would recommend this product.

Pulling & Balance Harness
Another great product! The design, quality, placement of patches requested, and workmanship are superb. I really like this harness because it is truly comfortable and unobtrusive for my service dog - which is super important to me. It is a "close-fit harness" so it is well worth taking the time to do the initial adjustments of the straps. After your dog wears it for a while, check for any possible areas on your dog that indicate any straps need to be tightened or more loose i.e. over-rubbed skin, etc... Keep in mind this harness is designed to fit so that it is more fitted, not loose. It was worth the time to make repeated adjustments - my service dog now LOVES this harness - and it meets my needs as well. We also have, use and love the Padded Harness Vest

harness
Works wonderfully. I'm a paraplegic in a wheelchair. My dog is training to pull and move my chair. It seems comfortable for her and it's easy to use for me. This is the first harness we've found that doesn't rub her or slide around. I highly recommend it.

Pulling and Balance Harness
Great product and very well constructed with a lot of thought put forth as to the comfort of the dog. My servce dog, Maggie, a 2 1/2 year old Rottie loves it. I've tried a number of different harnesses, however have always had concerns for her comfort. With this one, if I don't keep it out of her reach, she keeps bringing it to me.
